What is an UFI Code?

Here, we explain exactly what the so-called UFI code (Unique Formula Identifier) is and how you can generate it!

The UFI code ensures that all "hazardous mixtures" can be identified by a unique label on the packaging. This 16-character code, which must be applied to the packaging according to specific guidelines, is registered with the respective poison control center. The purpose is to enable the poison control center to access the product’s ingredients more quickly in case of emergencies. In short: The UFI code increases safety when handling all kinds of substances.

Every manufacturer who works with and sells substances that contain toxic or hazardous components is required to label their products with a UFI code. Additionally, every manufacturer must report this UFI code to the relevant authority (in Germany, the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment – BfR). Private users do not need an UFI code or a PCN submission.

What does it mean for you?

If you want to sell candles or similar products and use mixtures, it is your responsibility to generate and report a new UFI code. You can no longer use our UFI codes and will be required to use your own. You can generate your UFI codes at the following link: UFI Code Generator.
