Why do wicks need to be pre-waxed?

Pre-waxing candle wicks is an important step in making your candles. You cover the wick with a thin layer of wax to improve its stability and burning properties.

Here are some reasons why wicks are pre-waxed:

Stability: A pre-waxed wick is stiffer and more stable. This keeps it straight and in the desired position when pouring the liquid wax. This will prevent the wick from kinking or deforming during watering.

Burning properties: The pre-waxed wick burns more evenly and in a more controlled manner. The wax on the wick serves as additional fuel that stabilizes the flame and improves burning performance. This helps ensure the candle burns evenly.

Reduction of soot formation: By pre-growing the wick, soot formation is reduced. An unprewaxed wick may tend to burn too quickly and produce more soot.

Pre-waxing wicks is a simple step that results in better quality and performance of your candles and is a common practice in candle making.

We hope you have fun making your individual candles!
